In February 2023, a group of passionate riders, including myself, embarked on a motorcycle trip to Oman. With a mix of experienced and new riders (myself - I started riding few months before that on a KTM Duke 390 and just recently purchased a Harley Davidson 4 weeks before this trip), the journey promised adventure, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable memories. This article recounts my thrilling expedition through Oman's enchanting landscapes, captivating historical sites, and natural wonders.

Day 1
Setting off from Dubai:
The group, consisting of four riders from Dubai, including two members of the Enigmas Motorcycle Club, gathered at the Enigmas MC Petrol Station in Dubai on a Thursday evening. The journey began at 8 pm as we headed towards the Hatta border crossing, marking the start of our adventure into Oman. The boarder crossing went smoothly however, it was not a simple process consisting of four stops in total.

First Impressions of Oman:
For me, this trip was not only my first visit to Oman but also my first time crossing the border since arriving in the Middle East in January 2020 due to pandemic restrictions in the past years. The smooth crossing into Oman allowed us to commence our exploration of this captivating country. The Oman expressway was dark and lengthy. The night has swallowed the sceneries and the only focus point were the white stripes on the asphalt.

Day 2
Exploring Muscat and Wadi Mahram, Wadi Dima, Wadi Al Tayeen, and Turkish Delights:
After a tiring journey, the group arrived in Muscat, the capital city of Oman, within a remarkable 4.5 hours at around 12:30 am. Despite a restless night, my excitement prevailed as we were joined by our Omani counterparts, the Omani Enigmas, for a day's ride. The day's itinerary led us to Wadi Mahram, a village in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, renowned for its scenic beauty and archaeological structures.

Continuing our adventure, we visited Wadi Dima and Wadi Al Tayeen, located in the Al Sharqiyah region of Oman. These transformed desert regions showcased the country's diverse natural landscapes, from lush green trees and flowing water to caves and heritage houses. We crossed a river, which I have never done on a bike, there were small children playing by the road waving at the group excitedly. The pure joy of the Omanis when they see Harleys passing by is an amazing experience. At one point, we encountered a dog that chased of the riders. Luckily the mutt didn't catch up to his leg, so it remains a funny anecdote to tell. The day concluded with a culinary delight, as the group savored fresh fish and crustaceans at a renowned Turkish restaurant in Muscat, followed by a relaxing shisha session in a picturesque marina location.

Day 3
Sur, Al Ashkharah Beach and Wadi Bani Khalid
We headed to Sur, a historical port city, which played a significant role in Oman's maritime past. We explored the narrow streets of Sur immersing ourselves in the rich heritage of the region. Continuing our journey, we rode along the Al Ashkharah beach, mesmerized by the untouched natural beauty and the presence of local farm animals freely roaming the stunning coastline. On our trip crossing two locations, we stopped for fuel and to rest a little, there was a family of at least 10 children in the car who were talking to us about the bikes all very excited by the encounter.

The group embarked on an awe-inspiring ride to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's most famous wadis. This oasis-like destination, nestled within the Hajar Mountains, featured emerald green pools, towering palm trees, and a constant flow of water. There is an opportunity to swim, surrounded by the majestic cliffs and rocky canyons, making it an unforgettable experience. However, due to the sun touching the horizon we had to return to Muscat promptly. Wadi Bani Khalid, with its convenient facilities, including a bridge, seating areas, and a restaurant, ensured a comfortable visit. We finished with a lovely dinner in Muscat, which we all welcomed after 730 km of riding that day.

Day 4
The Final Day and Return to Dubai:
As the adventure drew to a close, we faced a choice: a direct return to Dubai or an opportunity to explore further. Opting for the latter, we stopped at Fanja for some Turkish coffee before embarking on the Wadi Bani Omar adventure. This unexplored area, characterized by stunning peaks and rugged terrain, offered mesmerizing views and challenges along the way. After encountering partially missing roads, the group relished the camaraderie, sharing karak tea and laughter, before heading back to the Oman expressway and the Hatta border.

Conclusion:
Covering a total distance of 2,270 km, the motorcycle trip to Oman in February 2023 was a truly life-changing experience. It allowed us to explore Oman's diverse landscapes, immerse ourselves in its rich history, and create lasting memories. From the bustling city of Muscat to the tranquil wadis and breathtaking beaches, Oman proved to be a land of adventure and natural beauty.
The camaraderie among the riders, the unexpected challenges, and the shared moments of laughter and joy made this journey an unforgettable chapter in our lives. The memories of the stunning landscapes, warm hospitality, and the sense of accomplishment will forever hold a special place in my heart.
